I started this site off as a purely domestic one which was able to show off some of my photographs taken of garden birds. My aim was also to share with others who have a similar interest in birding, or who are perhaps just trying to identify a bird that they've seen. I soon expanded the range of photographs to include pages of bird photos that I'd taken at places other than just in my back garden - there actually some 30 pages of content and over 900 individual photos here now. Although I did, as I said, start this site off on a purely domestic basis, I have since June 2011 included some advertising on most of the pages. I was initially reluctant to do this as I thought that it might in some way question the site's integrity or distract from the content, but the lure of click generated revenue is too great (google pays a small amount each time someone clicks on an ad). This doesn't make it a commercial site, but it does, or should, cover my costs on hosting and registration etc.
About the photos
Generally, I don't mind if people re-use the photos as long as it's not for commercial purposes. All I ask in return is that you give me a photo credit to this site. Permission for other uses may be granted on request and I certainly don't mind if people e-mail me to ask. The licence linked below is designed to stop people re-using the photos outside of these terms.

For photo editing there are two programmes that I use - ThumbsPlus, which I find very useful for reviewing and quick editing of photos (crop, resize etc.) and Photoshop for other editing such as colour balance.
About the camera equipment
Most of the photos were taken with a Canon 350D (8mp) which I've had since 2005. Up to the beginning of 2010 this was with a Canon 55-200mm f4.5-f5.6 zoom lens. In 2010 I then also bought a Sigma 300mm f2.8 lens and a Sigma 1.4x multiplier which when together gives a 420mm f4 lens. In July 2011 I also bought a Canon 60D body (18mp) which is now my primary camera.
Shown below are the 350D with 55-200 lens and the 60D with 300 lens and 1.4x multiplier and the 60D on a mini tripod.

I am happy to receive comments about the photos or the site in general and will try and answer any questions.
Simon.
